How to Cook Crab Legs

Crab legs are delicious! They might be a bit on the messy side, but there is something satisfying about digging out the delicious meat.

A little lemon squeezed over them and some melted garlic butter for dipping is all you need to complement this tasty crustacean. At fine restaurants, you will often find crab legs accompanying a cut of steak for a lovely surf and turf meal.

At Cameron’s Seafood, you can purchase already cooked Alaskan snow crab legs and jumbo Alaskan king crab legs. The snow crab legs are sweet and tender and they are sold in 3 lbs increments. The jumbo king crab legs are some of the biggest and meatiest king crab legs sold on the market.

Crab is also packed with nutrients. These include vitamin B12, phosphorus, zinc, copper, selenium and Omega-3 fatty acids. Fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties, and they may help bad cholesterol from adhering to the walls of arteries.

Before cooking your Alaskan crab legs, it is a good idea to thaw them gently in the fridge overnight. If you are running short on time, you can thaw them under cool running water. Once defrosted, your crab legs will last a day or two in the fridge, but try to use them as soon as possible.

If your crab legs are already cooked, there are many different ways to reheat them including: steaming, baking, boiling, and grilling. Once they are cooked, the easiest way to get at the meat is to split the legs with kitchen shears and then pull the meat out with seafood forks.

Steaming Crab Legs

Wash your crab legs with water to make sure you get rid of any sand or grit on the shell. Fill the bottom of a steamer pot with about 3 inches of water.

Once the water is boiling, add the crab legs to the steamer basket and reduce the heat so the water is simmering. Cook the legs for about 5 minutes until heated through. Serve.

Baking Crab Legs

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Wash your crab legs with water and place them in a deep baking dish with about ¼ to ½ inch of water covering the bottom.

Cover the dish with foil and poke a few holes in the foil to let out steam. Bake the legs for about 15 minutes until heated through.

For added flavor, you can brush the legs with oil, lemon, and garlic before cooking.

Boiling Crab Legs

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium and put your washed crab legs into the pot. Make sure your pot is big enough to completely submerge the legs in water.

Cook the crab legs for about 5 minutes. Carefully remove the legs with tongs when heated through and serve.

Grilling Crab Legs

For this method, you can use frozen crab legs.

Wrap 2-3 legs in foil and cook them on indirect heat for 10 minutes.

Unwrap the crab legs and cook them over direct heat for about 4 minutes per side. Serve the legs immediately once heated through.
